K9s For Warriors is a non-profit organization that is determined to providing service canines to wounded warriors that may be suffering from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder, a traumatic brain injury or military sexual trauma due to their time in service after 9/11. K9s For Warriors's primary mission is to help and empower our military veterans in order to return to civilian life with complete independence.
After attending New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton's Black and Gold Gala, Drew Brees and his wife Brittany got to learn about K9s For Warriors and immediately wanted to get involved.
Their first step to helping a potential veteran was sponsoring a service dog. The couple ended up sponsoring a German shepherd mix named "Brees".
With the couple's help the K9s for Warriors Program was happy to announce this past Monday that Brees the service dog has finally met her match. Brees is set to go home with U.S. Air Force veteran April Sandlin.
In order to prepare for Brees's homecoming, tech.Sgt. Sandlin spent 120 hour of intense training with Brees before finally graduating from the 21-day program.
"I can feel a difference in my life," Sandlin said in a statement. "I am very thankful for K9s For Warriors and that Drew Brees was so kind to sponsor my dog. Many things in combat cannot be unseen or unheard. I can't forget those things, but my dog helps me focus on something different -- our bond."
Sandlin suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and remarks that her life is far brighter now that Brees is a part of it.
Healing Heroes Network (HHN) is a non-profit 501c3 charity which has provided needed programs and services to our veterans since 2008.
As a non-profit organization, HHN's primary focus is to provide the means for wounded warriors to get the treatment and therapies they deserve and need.
Along with sweepstakes advertised at Hero Giveaway, HHN solely relies on the graciousness of their followers on Facebook through donations, merchandise, and entries to HG's giveaways.
